April 10, 1884 –  (Dodge City, Kansas): Lawman William “Bill” Tilghman was appointed City Marshal of Dodge City, Kansas, taking on the challenge of maintaining order in one of the wildest cow towns of the era.

1832 – The Black Hawk War begins when Native Americans are forced to leave Illinois, a pivotal moment in Midwestern frontier history.

1877  – First human cannonball act performed by 14-year-old Rossa Matilda Richter, known as Zazel, at the Royal Aquarium in London
