1855-Within the last seven years the population of cattle in Texas was increased from 350,000 to over 1 million.

1871-Will Bill Hickok is dismissed as sheriff of Abilene, Kansas

1872 – John Henry “Doc” Holliday graduates from the Pennsylvania College of Dental Surgery.

1866 – The first cattle drive was completed from Texas to Montana by Nelson Story.

1871 – Bill Pickett, inventor of bulldogging is two days old.  He was born in Austin, Texas.

1879 – Wyatt, James & Virgil Earp arrive in Tombstone.

1864 – One hundred fifty-one years ago today the full impact of the tragedy at Sand Creek was just being realized. Colonel John Chivington and his Colorado volunteers massacre a peaceful village of Cheyenne camped near Sand Creek in Colorado Territory, setting off a long series of bloody retaliatory attacks by Indians.

1859 – The Rocky Mountain News begins publication at the Cherry Creek digging sites of Denver.  Its publisher is William N. Byers.  The Weekly Arizonian begins publication in Tubac, south of Tucson.

1860 – Future hired gun, Tom Horn, is two days old.  He was born in Memphis, Missouri.
